Hi all,
I am standing for election to the Essex CCC board. Here's why I believe I would serve the club well. If you agree, vote for Richard Clarke.
I turn up and ask questions: If you have been to members' meetings over the past few years, you will have seen and heard me ask questions and say my piece.
Passionate about Essex CCC: I attend as many games as possible at Chelmsford, and many away too. I wrote a book about my support of the club in 2020 called Last-Wicket Stand. I post on social media as The Grumbler. I've been a member forever. Born and bred in Essex.
Passionate about county cricket: I've written and researched almost 200 in-depth newsletters on the county game over the past five years, discussing and critiquing the main issues facing teams. I'm also a columnist for The Cricket Paper.
Long career in media, communications and marketing in elite global sport: 13 years at Arsenal FC. Also Major League Soccer, football leagues in SE Asia and the Middle East, ATP Tennis, LIV Golf, USA Swimming.
Currently a consultant in sports media, communications and marketing. I also run Masters degree modules at a sports business university, including data marketing, AI and fan experience.
Areas of concentration if elected to the Essex CCC board:
Media & content, communications and marketing, especially email marketing
Fan experience
Women's team development (have experience from Arsenal FC)
I believe:
County cricket is precious. It needs love and care. Its traditions are its strength and, despite significant challenges, we can create a vision for the future.
Red-ball cricket can not only survive but thrive with a little original thinking.
Essex CCC have a unique legacy and character which, if marketed and communicated correctly, could make us the most popular sports team in the county.
Unfortunately, I was not among the three candidates recommended by the club. This means you must opt to vote for individual candidates in order to vote for me.
Please have a look at all the candidates and vote for whoever you feel will do the best job for the club. If you think that is me, then vote for Richard Clarke.
